Frequently Asked Questions

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

 Q)  How much does it cost to play in this league?

A)  The AZFL League Fee is $150.00 and is non-refundable.  There is a team fee, (this protects college eligibility of pay to play rule) however you must purchase your game jerseys and pants, check with the owners.  The game jerseys and pants will be ordered through the team and will have your name on the back of the jerseys and team name on the pants.  You will own the game uniforms and they are yours to keep after the season is over.  Practice jersey will be supplied by the team and returned and the end of the season.

Q)  How do I join the team?

A)  The fastest and easiest way is to go to the league website www.azfl.com and click the JOIN THE AZFL button and select Scottsdale Vipers in the 2012 Team Name: drop down window.  Fill out the online application form and click the agree to terms and conditions button at the bottom of the form.  The league fee of $150.00 can then be paid using the PayPal button.

Q)  What kind of equipment will I have to buy to play?

A)  If you currently have no equipment, a good budget for helmet, pads, shoes, and practice gear is around $300 to $500.  Used equipment is available online or at Sports Exchange in Mesa AZ.  Helmets must be certified and painted to the team color.  The team has a special purchase on new Schutt DNA helmets painted and ready to use for sale.  For team unity, all players will be required to practice in team workout shirts and shorts during preseason.  All players that pay the $150.00 league will receive workout clothing for free.  The team has equipment for rent, pads, practice pant and jersey are available for a $100 deposit.  Once the equipment is returned in good condition, you will be refunded $40.

Q)  Do I have to try-out for the team and can I get cut from the team?

A)  You can try-out for any position that you feel is best for you.  The coaching staff will help you to excel at that position.  You will not be cut from the team and even if you don't start the game, you will get playing time during the game.  The more practices that you attend, the more game time you can expect.  You must know the plays for your position before you can expect playing time.

Q) Can I pick which jersey number that I want?

A)  All jersey numbers are awarded according to the player's request.  This means the sooner you pay your league fee, the greater the chance that you will be awarded the player number that you want.

Q)  What are the age limits?

A)  Anyone 18 years or older is eligible.  Under 18 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian.

Q)  Is medical insurance required?

A)  Medical insurance is not required, but is highly recommended due to the physical nature of the sport.

Q) Where are the games played?

A) Home games are played at Thunderbird High School in Phoenix.  Away games are played in Tucson, Flagstaff, and Prescott.

Q)  Are there rules of conduct I have to follow?

A)  Yes, all players are expected to comply with both team and league rules concerning sportsmanship, conduct, and fee payments.  Failure to do so may result in the player being suspended from practices and games.
